David is the Xinmei Zhang and Yongge Dai Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an expert in consumer shopping behavior. His current research explains how we use the Internet to search and shop, and why this depends to a large extent on where we live, and on our physical world circumstances. David’s research on traditional retailing explains unplanned purchasing and impulse buying, how consumers select stores, why shoppers form reference points for price and promotion activities, and the effect of structural factors (e.g., dwelling size) on consumer shopping strategies.

David is an award-winning teacher and developed Wharton’s first course on Digital Marketing and Electronic Commerce and teaches it at both the Wharton | Philadelphia and Wharton | San Francisco campuses. He is the Academic Director for Wharton’s Advanced Management Program and along with Wharton colleagues Barbara Kahn and Pete Fader teaches the course An Introduction to Marketing via Coursera.org to over 100,000 students worldwide. With Barbara Kahn, he co-hosts a radio show on Retailing Issues on Sirius XM.
David also serves as an expert witness in intellectual property matters pertaining to choice behavior and market demand. Some recent representative cases include Sky Technologies LLP v. Jonathan is the Director of Analytics and Insights for the Wyndham Hotels Group.  His team provides guidance for the CMO, his eCommerce organization and Wyndham Hotels as a whole.

After graduating from Kellogg with an MBA in Decision Sciences, Marketing, Finance and Strategy, Jonathan was hired by Sabre to release its first cruise booking tool and the cruise industry’s first API.  He then grew Sabre’s travel agency web booking engine group into a multi-million-dollar profit center.  

Travelocity hired him as Manager of Analytics for the Air line of business, where his team used site metrics to identify and correct user experience problems.  He then managed Travelocity’s A/B testing group, automating the testing process and quadrupling test throughput, resulting in $13M in incremental profits.  He then became its Director of Marketing Analysis, implementing ROI-based  channel spend monitoring and chairing the weekly Channel & LOB meetings in which Travelocity’s $100 million marketing budget was allocated and its tactics were tuned.

His current areas of focus include marketing channel attribution, social media data mining and the use of consumer data to improve personalization and retargeting.

As the Category Director for HP Shopping Kevin leads the team that is responsible for selecting the consumer and SMB products that we assort on HP.com, as well as defining the pricing and promotional strategies that we employ.  Kevin’s team’s main objective is to make customers that visit our site fall in love with HP’s product offerings and to make HP their brand of choice.  By creating a world class shopping and buying experience on our site, we also want to earn the customers’ business on HP.com.  In doing so, we aim to create experiences that keep them as lifelong shoppers and ardent loyalists to HP.com. 

Kevin has served as the Category Director for HP Shopping since March 2014. 

Past Accomplishments

Kevin has an extensive history of merchandising leadership roles at the largest retail companies in the US.  He started his career at Target as an area store manager and was promoted to the buying office where he gained a broad range of experience in retail buying, planning, distribution, and trend merchandising. Kevin joined Best Buy as the Director of Merchandising for Notebook Computing, guiding the category through its most expansive period of growth from 1999-2004.  He then spent 2 years in Shanghai on assignment to assist with the development of Best Buy’s private brand sourcing strategy.  Kevin returned to the US to take over as the Senior Director of Merchandising for televisions, again during the categories most explosive growth period from 2005-2007.  Kevin was then promoted to Vice President of Merchandising for Digital Imaging.  In 2008 Kevin was asked to lead a startup group to pioneer Best Buy’s Secondary Market capability.  He led two successful acquisitions, and during this time oversaw the development of 4 websites, and led the introduction of Trade In as new capability.  Kevin joined Dick’s Sporting Goods in 2012 as the Vice President of Merchandising for several of the company’s largest categories.  After a two year absence from Consumer Electronics Kevin decided to follow his true passion and join forces with the world’s largest and best technology company and is excited about the prospect of being a part of a team that will make HP Shopping the premier computing destination for consumers online.

Katja joined HP from Apple, where she served as Product Lead, Innovation Labs at the Apple Online Store, where she explored future eCommerce trends, translated these into a vision, and created prototypes at the intersection of product, technology, and user experience. Prior to Apple, Katja helped various key accounts determine and implement winning online strategies at Google. Earlier experiences include management consulting at BCG and project management in sports marketing.

Katja graduated with an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.A. in business administration, economics, and law from University of St. Gallen. She speaks five languages. Originally Swiss, Katja is based in the Bay Area in Palo Alto, California.
